SQUIRREL (Red Squirrel: Sciurus vulgaris)

Squirrels only a few times in Shakespeare, twice in connection with fairies.

Red Squirrels are the native species to the UK but they have declined dramatically in recent years and are assessed as Endangered in the UK. Several organisations are working to conserve Red Squirrel populations.
